Welcome to the Messy Middle Road Trip podcast. Today we’re going to be talking about facing our fears. This could include anything from signing up to audition for a singing competition to saying hello to the handsome barista at your coffee shop. The definition of fear in the dictionary describes an unpleasant emotion caused by the BELIEF that something or someone is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. The key word here is BELIEF. Fear is not a tangible thing even though it can feel like it with physical responses like sweaty palms, racing heart or shortness of breath. Fear is a choice. So many of us choose to live in fear because of the “What if.” What if I fail? What if I look stupid? What if I get hurt? What if I lose money? What if we “what if” ourselves into a lifetime with unfulfilled dreams and missed opportunities? There was a quote that stated “Being courageous doesn’t mean you aren’t afraid. It means your bravery overcomes your fears. I love that because oftentimes we forget that courage and fear walk hand in hand.
